Behind the Lens at the NARS Matte Foundation Launch
Event and Product Photography for Seen Group
Some products are just made to be photographed. The new NARS matte foundation is one of them — and getting the call to capture its launch event was exactly the kind of work I love. I drove down to Houston where Seen Group hosted the event, and spent the day capturing everything from product detail shots to influencer moments to the full event atmosphere. Here's a look at how it came together.
The shoot
This was a full event and product photography day for Seen Group, covering the NARS matte foundation launch from every angle. Product detail photography — the kind of close, intentional shots that make a formula and a finish look as good in an image as they do on skin. Event atmosphere photography capturing the space, the details, the energy of a well-produced beauty launch. And influencer photography — candid and directed moments of attendees engaging with the product that brands and creators both need for content.
Beauty launch events move fast. There's a rhythm to them — arrivals, first impressions, product moments, group energy — and the job is to stay ahead of it, anticipate the shots, and not miss anything. That's a different skill set than studio photography, and it's one I genuinely enjoy.
On driving to Houston
Worth noting: I'm Austin-based, but I travel for the right work. The Houston drive for this one was easy — and I regularly take on event and product photography assignments across Texas and beyond for brands that need someone who can show up prepared and deliver a polished final gallery. If you're planning a launch, a pop-up, or a brand event and need coverage, location is rarely a barrier.
Why event photography matters for beauty brands
A product launch is one of the highest-investment moments in a brand's calendar. The venue, the product, the influencer list, the styling — all of it costs real money and real time. Photography is what makes that investment live beyond the day itself. It feeds months of social content, press materials, influencer reposts, and brand storytelling. Without strong event photography, a beautiful launch disappears the moment guests walk out the door.
For beauty brands in particular, the bar is high. Product shots need to show texture, finish, and color accuracy. Influencer moments need to feel authentic and shareable. Event details need to capture the aesthetic and brand identity of the activation. It all has to work together.
