SXSW 2026: Behind the Lens of Austin's Biggest Festival
Five years. That's how long I've had the privilege of showing up to South by Southwest with a camera in hand and a mission to capture one of the most electric weeks Austin has to offer. As an Austin event photographer, SXSW is my Super Bowl — and this year felt bigger, louder, and more alive than ever.
This was my second year on the sponsorship team, which means my role as a SXSW photographer goes beyond the stage and the crowd. My job is to document the brands and activations woven throughout the festival — to capture the energy of each sponsorship moment and tell the visual story of how these partners show up in Austin. Think experiential pop-ups, branded installations, and the moments where a sponsor's identity collides with the unmistakable spirit of SXSW. It's genuinely one of my favorite challenges as an Austin brand photographer — finding the frame that honors both the brand and the chaos of the festival around it.
My job is to capture the brands and the activations — to highlight the sponsorship story throughout the festival and really capture the branding that reflects the energy of SXSW.
Beyond the brand work, we also get to cover Music and EDU — and that's where things get truly unforgettable. As an Austin conference photographer, I've learned that SXSW doesn't just happen in convention halls; it spills into churches, cantinas, outdoor stages, and everywhere in between. This year's music lineup was something else entirely.
Some of my favorite acts this year — in no particular order:
Jack Johnson
Alanis Morissette & St. Vincent
Hermanos Gutiérrez
Les Itinérantes — an acapella performance inside Trinity Church (absolutely stunning)
Babatunde bringing hip hop opera to the Flamingo Cantina
J'Cuzzi absolutely destroying on St. Patrick's Day
From the reverent hush of an acapella set inside a stone church to the full-on St. Patrick's Day mayhem of J'Cuzzi on stage — that range is exactly why I keep coming back. There is truly no other week in Austin like this one.
It was a ton of awesome music, incredible brand moments, and another year of memories I'll be chasing in the edit for weeks.
