Data-Driven Salon Summit — on-site headshots and video production for Austin beauty brands

What happens when two powerhouse Austin beauty brands need conference headshots, speaker portraits, and full video production — all in a single day? Here's how we pulled it off.

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to work on one of the most exciting on-site projects of the year — photographing and filming for two incredible Austin beauty brands, Urban Betty and Mya, at the Data-Driven Salon Summit, held May 16–18 at the Renaissance Austin Hotel.

This wasn't just a headshot gig. It was a full creative production: on-site conference headshots, speaker portraits, sit-down interview footage, and on-stage speaker coverage — all happening in a single day, in a live conference environment. If you've been looking for an Austin headshot photographer who can handle that level of complexity, this post is for you.

One of the many video interviews we captured and optimized for Instagram Reels:

The event: Data-Driven Salon Summit

The Data-Driven Salon Summit is the premier annual gathering for salon, spa, and beauty business owners who are serious about growth — covering everything from client retention metrics to AI-powered operations. Think TEDx meets beauty industry business school. The energy in that room is electric.

Two Austin-based brands were among the speakers this year: Chelle from Urban Betty and Danielle from Mya. Both are leaders in the Austin beauty space, both were delivering conference presentations — and both needed imagery and video content that matched the caliber of what they were putting on stage.

The production setup

I came in with my assistant and a full multi-camera production setup. For a live conference environment, preparation is everything — you don't get second takes when someone's mid-speech.

  • 3-camera setup

  • DJI wireless mic

  • Professional lighting

  • Photographer + assistant

  • On-site headshots

  • Individual interviews

  • Speaker coverage

The three-camera configuration gave us full coverage: one camera locked on a wide stage shot, one for close coverage of the speaker, and one roving for dynamic b-roll and environmental context. The wireless mic meant clean, broadcast-quality audio regardless of where the speaker moved on stage — no dropouts, no ambient conference noise muddying the dialogue.

Lighting at live events is always a negotiation. Conference lighting is designed for the room, not for a camera sensor. We brought in our own supplemental lights to ensure that both the headshot portraits and the interview setups were properly exposed and flattering — not washed out or color-shifted by the venue's overhead rigs.

Coupling headshots with video — a smarter way to produce content

Here's where the session got efficient in the best way. Rather than treating the headshots and the video as two separate projects — two separate booking days, two separate setups, two separate travel and logistics puzzles — we combined them.

After capturing Chelle and Danielle on stage during their conference presentations, we transitioned directly into a structured interview setup and professional headshot session. Same day, same location, same team. They were already in their presentation-ready looks, already in the mindset, already on. That translates directly into better photos and more natural footage.

The result: two brands left that day with polished conference headshots, speaker portraits, sit-down interview footage, and on-stage presentation coverage — all cohesively shot and ready to be deployed across their websites, social channels, press materials, and LinkedIn.

Why on-site conference headshots are worth it

A lot of brands send their people to conferences without any thought to coming home with imagery. That's a missed opportunity. Conferences are some of the highest-production moments in a professional's year — everyone's dressed intentionally, the stakes are real, the energy is present. That's exactly when you want a camera on you.

As an Austin headshot photographer who specializes in corporate events and brand photography, I've seen what a difference it makes when a company treats their conference presence as a content opportunity, not just a networking trip. Chelle and Danielle came prepared — and they left with a library of assets to show for it.

Introducing: conference headshot + video packages

Based on productions like this one, I'm now formally offering a dedicated conference headshot and video package for Austin brands, companies, and events. Whether you're a speaker, a sponsor, or an organizer, this is built for you.

On-site headshots Professional portraits captured in your conference environment or a designated setup area

Speaker coverage Multi-camera capture of your presentation — wide, close, and b-roll

Sit-down interviews Structured interview sessions with broadcast-quality audio and professional lighting

Social-ready delivery Edited photos and video cuts formatted for LinkedIn, Instagram, and web

This service is ideal for Austin beauty and wellness brands, corporate event speakers, conference organizers who want to offer photography and video as a value-add to attendees, and any brand that wants to leave a conference with more than a tote bag and a stack of business cards.

Working with Urban Betty and Mya

Urban Betty and Mya are exactly the kind of Austin brands I love working with — professional, intentional about their image, and clear on what they want to communicate. Chelle and Danielle both came in ready. We moved quickly, we made strong images, and the video footage reflects the authority and warmth they brought to the stage.

If your brand is showing up at a conference, a summit, or any industry event in 2026 and you want to come home with content that extends that moment — let's talk before your event date locks.
