WHAT TO WEAR TO YOUR PHOTOSHOOT
5 tips on what to wear to your photoshoot:
1. Comfort is key!
Keep your clothing comfortable & loose fitting. Of course you don’t want to go too loose where you drown in your clothing, but anything too tight will feel restrictive and isn’t as flattering. You really want to find a fit that is juuuust right!
2. Accesorize
Have fun with accessories! Some examples:
Cool Hat
Bold Jewelry
Patterend Ties
Bright shoes, etc.
Pro-tip: stick to one accessory, you don’t want to overdue it!
3. Layers & textures
Layers & textures are a great idea and make for eye-catching images.. Especially because us Austinites know the weather can be crazy hot. Adding layers allows for variety within your outfit and an opportunity to shed some clothes if the Austin sun is too hot.
Add a jacket, cardigan, kimono for fun layers that you can shed if needed due to the Austin sun!
Velvet & silk look awesome in photos.
Pro-tip: silk is a great option for those hot Austin summer shoots as it’s super breathable.
4. Patterns
Stick to solid colors & minimal patterns. Less is more when it comes to your outfit patterns. I’d rather you show off your personality in your accessories and stick to a solid color, than wear a very distracting patterned outfit.
5. Don’t forget about the shoes!
You spent all this time curating the perfect outfit, but don’t forget about the shoes! All of the above tips apply to your shoes. :)
Make sure your shoes are nice, clean, and go with your outfit.
Pro-tip: if you’re planning to wear high heels/uncomfortable shoes, bring a comfortable pair of shoes so we can switch off when we walk from A to B.
What type of colors work best?
Neutrals and warm earth tones photograph great and tend to bring out your features vs. washing you out.
A good rule of thumb when choosing colors, think muted, not super bright.
Some of my favorite photoshoot colors below!
Pro-tip: if you’re getting your photos taken in a bunch of greenery, avoid wearing green. You want to stand out from your surroundings, not blend into them. :)
Multi-person shoot
Doing a photo shoot with your partner or family members? Make sure your outfits go together.
A few quick tips:
If one of you has a pattern, then the other should wear a solid color that compliments.
Wear contrasting colors vs. the same exact color for more depth. If you’re wearing the same exact color, go for different shades.
Pro-tip: coordinate, don’t match :)
5 tips on What NOT to wear:
1. Bright colors (hot pink, lime green, etc.)
A good rule of thumb: think muted, not super bright. Reference the colors above :)
2. Baseball caps
Wearing a fashionable hat works great, but baseball caps typically don’t look right in photos. If you have a specific meaning to the hat, we can take a few photos at the end of the session.
3. Any clothing with logos/branding
Unless you’re doing a photoshoot to promote the brand, logos/branding don’t come across great in photos and look super relaxed/unprofessional.
4. Anything too tight or uncomfortable
This may seem obvious, but clothes that don’t fit right, don’t photograph well either. It’s more slimming to wear something that is a bit looser (not too loose of course) but something that you feel completely comfortable in and can easily move around in!
5. Very distracting patterns
I love some minimal patterns for sure, but really intense patterned outfit will distract from your beautiful face and your surroundings.
I hope this guide helped you narrow down some options!!
